Âyîne

Âyîne is a Persian word for mirror. In Kâmus-ı Türkî, the word opens into the legend of Alexander’s mirror and Şemseddin Sami’s rational suggestion that it may have been a map or atlas — a device that brought distant places before the eye.

A mirror here becomes more than reflection; it becomes a way of seeing what is otherwise out of reach.
